Volissos is the largest village in northwestern Chios, with a road distance of 42 km from Chios town was formerly “home”  of a namesake community, as until the end of 2010 was the seat of the Municipality of Amani. Today is a district of the Municipality of Chios. Volissos is a village with a long history: according to Thucydides references is a wind old town as well as rumored birthplace of Homer.
